Psalms 83

A Prayer Against God’s Enemies

1 God, do not be quiet; Do not be still, God, do not be silent.

2 Because look, Your enemies are making noise; And those who hate You are lifting their head.

3 They cook up a clever plan against Your people, And they talk together against Your hidden ones.

4 They said, “Come, let us wipe them out so they are not a nation, So the name of Israel is not remembered anymore.”

5 Because they got together in one heart; They made a deal against You.

6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagarites,

7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the people of Tyre;

8 Assyria also joined them; They became the arm for the sons of Lot.

A Plea for God’s Vengeance

9 Do to them like to Midian, Like to Sisera, like to Jabin at the River Kishon,

10 Who were wiped out at Endor; They became dirt for the ground.

11 Make them and their princes like Oreb and Zeeb, And all their leaders like Zebah and Zalmunna,

12 Who said, “We are going to get God’s places for ourselves.”

13 My God, make them like a tumbleweed, Like straw in front of the wind.

14 Like a fire that burns a forest, And like a flame that eats the mountains,

15 So chase them with Your storm, And scare them with Your wind.

16 Cover their faces with shame, So they will look for Your name, Lord.

17 Let them be embarrassed and scared forever; Let them be shamed and be gone,

18 So they know that You, whose name is Lord, You alone are the Most High over the whole earth.
