Psalms 72
Read Psalms 72 in clear, relatable modern language.
The Reign of the Righteous King
1 God, give Your judgments to the king, And Your righteousness to the king’s son.
2 He will judge Your people with what is right, And Your broke ones with what is fair.
3 The mountains will bring peace to the people, And the hills righteousness.
4 He will do right by the broke of the people, Save the kids of the needy, And bust the oppressor.
A Prayer for the King’s Success
5 They will fear You as long as the sun is around, And as long as the moon is around, for all generations.
6 He will come down like rain on the mown grass, Like showers that water the earth.
7 In his days the righteous will shine, And peace will be everywhere until the moon is gone.
8 He will rule from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.
9 Those who live in the desert will bow down to him, And his enemies will lick the dust.
10 The kings of Tarshish and the islands will bring gifts; The kings of Sheba and Seba will offer tribute.
11 All kings will bow down to him, All nations will serve him.
The King’s Mercy
12 Because he will save the needy when he cries out, The broke one who has no one to help him.
13 He will feel for the weak and the needy, And he will save the lives of the needy.
14 He will pull their life out of oppression and violence, And their blood will be precious in his eyes.
A Final Word of Praise
15 So he will live, and to him will be given the gold of Sheba; And prayer will be made for him all the time; All day he will be blessed.
16 There will be a bunch of grain in the land, on top of the mountains; Its fruit will shake like Lebanon, And the people of the city will shine like the grass of the earth.
17 His name will last forever; His name will be known as long as the sun. And people will be blessed in him; All nations will call him blessed.
18 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who alone does awesome stuff.
19 And blessed be His props name forever, And let all the earth be full of His props. Amen and Amen.
20 That wraps up the prayers of David, the son of Jesse.
