Psalms 71

Read Psalms 71 in clear, relatable modern language.

A Prayer of Old Age

In You, Lord, I run for safety; Do not let me get embarrassed ever.

In Your righteousness, rescue me and pull me out; Bend Your ear to me and save me.

Be my rock of strength, where I can always go; You ordered to save me, because You are my rock and my fortress.

My God, pull me out of the hand of the wicked, From the hand of the evil and violent dude.

Because You are my hope, Lord God, My trust from when I was young.

On You I been held up from the womb; You are the one who pulled me from my mom’s insides; My praise is always for You.

A Declaration of Trust

I became a sign to a bunch of people, But You are my strong safe spot.

My mouth is full of Your praise, All day of Your props.

Do not ditch me when I am old, Do not leave me when my strength is gone.

Because my enemies are talking about me; And those who are hiding to take my life are talking together,

Saying, “God ditched him; Chase him and grab him, because nobody is to save him.”

God, do not be far from me; My God, hurry up and help me!

Let them who are against my soul be embarrassed and wiped out; Let them who look to hurt me be covered with shame and disrespect.

A Promise to Praise

But I will always hope, And I will praise You more and more.

My mouth will tell about Your righteousness And Your rescue all day long, because I do not know the number of them.

I will come with the strength of the Lord God; I will talk about Your righteousness, Yours alone.

God, You taught me from when I was young, And to this day I tell about Your awesome moves.

And even when I am old and got grey hair, God, do not ditch me, Until I tell the next generation about Your strength, Your power to all who are yet to come.

A Final Plea

Your righteousness, God, is way up there; You did big-time stuff, God, who is like You,

You who showed us a bunch of big and bad troubles, You will bring us back to life again, And from the depths of the earth, You will bring us back up.

You will increase my greatness And comfort me all over again.

I will also thank You with the guitar, Your truth, my God; I will sing praises to You on the harp, O Holy One of Israel.

My lips will cheer when I sing praises to You, And my soul which You rescued.

My tongue also will talk about Your righteousness all day, because they who looked to hurt me are embarrassed and shamed.
