Psalms 60

A Lament and a Prayer for Victory

1 God, You pushed us away, You broke us; You were mad, O bring us back!

2 You made the earth shake, You split it open; Heal its breaks, because it is crumbling.

3 You showed Your people hard times; You made us drink wine that made us stumble.

4 You gave a banner to those who fear You, So they can hold it up because of the truth.

5 So those who You love can be rescued, Save us with Your right hand and answer us.

A Declaration of God’s Promise

6 God spoke in His holiness: “I will celebrate; I will split Shechem and measure out the Valley of Succoth.

7 Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim is the helmet for My head; Judah is My scepter.

8 Moab is My washing bowl; On Edom I throw My shoe; Shout out loud, Philistia, because of Me.

A Call for God to Act

9 Who is going to bring me to the fortified city, Who is going to lead me to Edom,

10 Did You not, God, push us away, And You do not go out with our armies, God.

11 Give us help against our enemy, because human rescue is not worth anything.

12 With God we will do great things, And He will stomp on our haters.
