Psalms 38
Read Psalms 38 in clear, relatable modern language.
A Cry of Anguish
Lord, do not come at me with that wrath, And do not discipline me when you mad.
Because Your arrows got me, And Your hand came down on me.
There is nothing healthy in my body because of Your anger; There is no peace in my bones because of my sin.
Because my messed-up stuff went over my head; It is a heavy weight, too heavy for me to carry.
My wounds are messed up and nasty, because of my foolishness.
I am twisted up and bent over real low; I am walking around all day feeling sad.
Because my insides are full of burning pain, And there is nothing healthy in my body.
I am weak and totally crushed; I am groaning because my heart is bugging out.
A Plea for God’s Help
Lord, all my wishes are right in front of You; My groaning is not hidden from You.
My heart is beating fast, my strength is gone; Even the light in my eyes is gone.
My friends and homies keep their distance from my trouble, And my family stands far away.
And those who want to take my life set up traps; Those who look to mess me up talk about my downfall, And cook up lies all day.
But I am like a dude who cannot hear, I do not listen; I am like a dude who cannot talk, my mouth is closed.
I was like a dude who do not hear, And in his mouth there is no defense.
A Confession of Trust
Because on You, Lord, I am waiting; You are going to answer, Lord my God.
Because I said, “Do not let them be happy over me; When my foot slips, they act big-time against me.”
Because I am about to fall, And my sorrow is always with me.
Because I am going to tell about my wrong, I am worried about my sin.
But my haters are strong and deep, And those who hate me for no reason are a bunch.
And they pay back evil for good; They came at me because I was trying to do right.
Do not ditch me, Lord; My God, do not be far from me!
Hurry up and help me, Lord, my rescue!
