Psalms 31

Read Psalms 31 in clear, relatable modern language.

A Prayer for Deliverance

In You, Lord, I run for safety; Do not let me get embarrassed ever; Rescue me in Your righteousness.

Bend Your ear to me; Hurry up and rescue me. Be my rock of strength, A fortress to save me.

Because You are my rock and my fortress; For the sake of Your name, You will lead me and guide me.

You will pull me out of the net they secretly set for me, because You are my strength.

Into Your hands I hand over my spirit; You rescued me, Lord, God of truth.

A Cry of Anguish

I hate those who worship fake idols; But I trust in the Lord.

I will be happy and celebrate in Your grace, because You saw my suffering; You know the troubles of my soul,

And You did not hand me over to the enemy. You set my feet in a wide-open space.

Show me grace, Lord, because I am in trouble; My eyes, my soul, my body are weak with grief.

My life is wasting away with sorrow, And my years with groaning. My strength is gone because of my sin, And my bones are weak.

I am a diss to all my enemies, Especially to my neighbors, And a shock to my friends. Those who see me outside, they run from me.

I am forgotten like a dead person; I am like a piece of broken pottery.

Because I heard the trash talk of many; Fear is all around me. They squad up against me; They planning to take my life.

A Declaration of Trust

But I trust in You, Lord; I say, “You are my God.”

My future is in Your hands; Rescue me from the hands of my enemies and my chasers.

Make Your face shine on Your servant; Save me in Your grace.

Lord, do not let me get embarrassed, because I called on You. Let the wicked get embarrassed; Let them be quiet in the grave.

Let the lying lips be silenced, Who talk all prideful and arrogant Against the righteous with hate.

A Song of Praise

How big is the goodness that You saved For those who fear You, That You did for those who run to You In front of everyone.

You hide them in the secret spot of Your presence, Away from the schemes of people. You keep them safe in Your tent from the trash talk of tongues.

Blessed be the Lord, because He showed me His awesome grace in a city that is like a fortress.

As for me, I said in my panic, “I am cut off from Your sight.” But You heard my prayer when I cried out to You.

Love the Lord, all you His faithful! The Lord keeps the loyal, But He pays back big-time the proud.

Be strong and let your heart be brave, All you who wait on the Lord.
