Psalms 144

A Song of Praise and Prayer

1 Blessed be the Lord my rock, Who trains my hands for war, My fingers for battle;

2 My loyal grace and my fortress, My high tower and my rescuer, My shield and the one in whom I run for safety, Who brings my people under me.

A Word on God’s Care for Man

3 Lord, what is a dude that You know him, Or a son of man that You think about him,

4 A dude is like a whisper; His days are like a passing shadow.

A Plea for God’s Presence and Justice

5 Bend Your heavens, Lord, and come down; Touch the mountains, and they will smoke.

6 Let out lightning and scatter them; Send out Your arrows and mess them up.

7 Hold out Your hands from up high; Pull me out and rescue me from big waters, From the hand of foreign sons,

8 Whose mouth talks lies, And whose right hand is a right hand of cheating.

A Final Word

9 God, I will sing a new song to You; On a ten-string guitar I will make music to You,

10 Who gives rescue to kings, Who rescues David His servant from the mean sword.

11 Pull me out and rescue me from the hand of foreign sons, Whose mouth talks lies, And whose right hand is a right hand of cheating.

A Blessing for a Prosperous Nation

12 Let our sons in their youth be like plants that are all grown, And our daughters like corners carved out for a palace.

13 Let our storehouses be full, Providing all kinds of stuff; Let our sheep get thousands, Ten thousands in our yards;

14 Let our cows be loaded; Let there be no break-in, and no going out, And no crying out in our streets.

15 Happy are the people who are in this situation; Happy are the people whose God is the Lord.
