Psalms 140
Read Psalms 140 in clear, relatable modern language.
A Prayer for Deliverance
1 Lord, rescue me from the evil dude; Keep me from the violent dude,
2 Who cook up evil in their hearts; They always get together for war.
3 They sharpened their tongue like a serpent; The poison of a cobra is under their lips.
4 Lord, keep me from the hands of the wicked; Keep me from the violent dude, Who planned to trip up my steps.
5 The proud hid a net for me and ropes; They spread a net by the path; They set traps for me.
A Confession of Trust
6 I said to the Lord, “You are my God; Listen, Lord, to my prayer.”
7 Lord God, the strength of my rescue, You covered my head on the day of battle.
8 Lord, do not give the wicked dude what he wants; Do not make his plan work, So they do not get proud.
A Final Plea for Justice
9 As for the heads of those who surround me, Let the trouble of their own lips cover them.
10 Let hot coals fall on them; Let them be thrown into the fire, Into deep pits, so they do not get up again.
11 Do not let a dude with a bad tongue be set up on earth; Let evil chase the violent dude fast.
12 I know that the Lord will do right by the needy, And justice for the broke.
13 For sure, the righteous will thank Your name; The straight-up will live in front of You.
