Psalms 106

A History of Israel’s Rebellion

1 Praise the Lord! Thank the Lord, because He is good; because His loyal grace is forever.

2 Who can talk about the awesome moves of the Lord, Who can tell about all His praise,

3 Happy are those who keep justice, Who do what is right all the time.

4 Remember me, Lord, with the favor You show Your people; Visit me with Your rescue,

5 So I can see the good of Your chosen ones, So I can be happy in the happiness of Your nation, So I can brag with Your inheritance.

Israel’s Rebellion in the Desert

6 We sinned with our dads; We did wrong, we were messed up.

7 Our dads in Egypt did not get Your awesome moves; They did not remember Your massive grace, But they wilding at the sea, at the Red Sea.

8 But He saved them for the sake of His name, To make His power known.

9 He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up, And He led them through the deeps like a desert.

10 He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them And pulled them out of the hand of the enemy.

11 The waters covered their haters; Not one of them was left.

12 Then they believed His words; They sang His praise.

Their Continued Rebellion

13 But they forgot His works fast; They did not wait for His advice.

14 But they had a craving in the desert And tested God in the wasteland.

15 He gave them what they wanted, But He sent a wasting sickness into their soul.

16 They were also jealous of Moses in the camp, And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.

17 The earth opened and swallowed Dathan, And covered the crew of Abiram.

18 A fire got lit in their crew; A flame burned the wicked.

19 They made a calf at Horeb And bowed down to a carved idol.

20 They traded their props For the image of an ox that eats grass.

21 They forgot God their rescuer, Who did big-time things in Egypt,

22 Awesome moves in the land of Ham, Things to be scared of at the Red Sea.

23 So He said He would wipe them out, If Moses, His chosen one, had not stood in the gap in front of Him To turn away His wrath, so He would not destroy them.

Their Disobedience in the Promised Land

24 Then they looked down on the pleasant land; They did not believe His word,

25 But they mumbled in their tents And did not listen to the voice of the Lord.

26 So He swore with a raised hand to them, That He would make them fall in the desert,

27 And that He would make their kids fall among the nations, And scatter them in the lands.

28 Then they attached themselves to Baal of Peor, And ate the sacrifices of the dead.

29 So they made Him mad with their actions, And a plague broke out among them.

30 Then Phinehas got up and did what is right, And the plague stopped.

31 And it was counted to him as righteousness For all generations forever.

Their Rebellion Continues

32 They also made Him mad at the waters of Meribah, So Moses got in trouble for their sake,

33 Because they wilding against his spirit, And he spoke carelessly with his lips.

34 They did not destroy the people, As the Lord ordered them,

35 But they mixed with the nations And learned their moves,

36 And served their idols, Which became a trap for them.

37 They also sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons,

38 And poured out innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, And the land was messed up with blood.

39 So they became dirty with their works And cheated on God with their actions.

God’s Punishment and Mercy

40 So the Lord’s anger got hot against His people, And He looked down on His inheritance.

41 He handed them over to the hand of the nations, And those who hated them ruled over them.

42 Their enemies oppressed them, And they were brought down under their hand.

43 A bunch of times He rescued them, But they were rebellious in their plans And were brought down for their sin.

44 But He looked at their trouble When He heard their cry.

45 He remembered His promise for them, And felt for them because of His massive grace.

46 He also gave them mercy In front of all who took them captive.

A Final Plea and Praise

47 Save us, Lord our God, And get us from the nations, To thank Your holy name And to be happy in Your praise.

48 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, From forever to forever! And let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the Lord!
