Read Psalms 104 in clear, relatable modern language.
A Hymn of Praise to the Creator
My soul, bless the Lord! Lord my God, You are super big-time; You are strapped with honor and majesty,
Wrapping Yourself with light like a jacket, Stretching out the heavens like a tent,
Who puts the beams of His rooms in the waters, Who makes the clouds His chariot, Who walks on the wings of the wind,
Who makes His messengers winds, His ministers a flaming fire.
He set up the earth on its bases, So it will not be shook forever.
God’s Provision
You covered it with the deep like a jacket; The waters stood over the mountains.
At Your rebuke they ran; At the sound of Your thunder, they ran away.
The mountains went up, the valleys went down To the spot You set up for them.
You put a border they will not pass, So they do not come back to cover the earth.
He sends springs into the valleys; They run among the mountains.
They give drinks to all the animals of the field; The wild donkeys quench their thirst.
By them the birds of the sky live; They sing among the branches.
He waters the mountains from His rooms; The earth is full of the fruit of Your works.
He makes grass grow for the animals, And plants for the dude to work, To bring food from the earth,
And wine that makes a dude’s heart happy, Making his face shine with oil, And bread that holds up his heart.
The Lord’s trees are full, The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,
Where the birds make their nests; The stork has her home in the pine trees.
The high mountains are for the wild goats; The rocks are a safe spot for the rock badgers.
A Look at God’s Design
He made the moon for times; The sun knows its going down.
You make darkness, and it is night, In which all the wild animals of the forest creep out.
The young lions roar for their prey And look for their food from God.
When the sun gets up, they get together And they lie down in their dens.
A dude goes out to his work, And to his hustle until the evening.
Lord, how many are Your works! You made them all in wisdom; The earth is full of Your stuff.
There is the sea, big-time and wide, In which are a bunch of things that cannot be counted, Living things small and big.
There the ships go; There is Leviathan, which You made to play with in it.
A Final Word of Praise
All of them look for You, To give them their food in its time.
You give it to them, they get it; You open Your hand, they are full with good stuff.
You hide Your face, they are scared; You take away their spirit, they die And turn back to their dust.
You send out Your Spirit, they are made, And You renew the face of the earth.
May the props of the Lord last forever; May the Lord be happy in His works;
Who looks at the earth, and it shakes; He touches the mountains, and they smoke.
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will make music to my God as long as I am around.
May my thoughts be sweet to Him; I will be happy in the Lord.
Let sinners be gone from the earth, And let the wicked be no more. My soul, bless the Lord! Praise the Lord!
