Joshua 1

God Commissions Joshua

1 After Moses passed, the Lord spoke to Joshua (son of Nun), Moses’ right-hand man, and said:

2 “Moses My servant is gone. Now it is your time. Get up, take the people, and cross the Jordan River into the land I am giving you all.”

3 Every place you step foot - that is yours. I promised it to Moses, and I am keeping that promise with you.

4 From the wilderness to Lebanon, From the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea - That is your turf now.

5 Nobody can mess with you your whole life. Just like I had Moses’ back, I got yours. I will not leave you or bail on you.

6 Be strong. Be bold. You are going to lead these people to the land I swore to give their ancestors.

7 Only thing is - stay locked in to what Moses taught. Do not swerve left or right - keep it solid. Then you will win wherever you go.

8 Keep this Book of the Law in your mouth. Talk it, think it, live it - day and night. Do what it says and you will succeed in whatever you touch.

9 Did I not tell you, Be strong and courageous! Do not get shook or discouraged - because I, the Lord your God, am rolling with you wherever you go.

Joshua Gives Orders to the People

10 Then Joshua told the officers, “Move out and tell the people this…”

11 “Pack your stuff - in three days, we cross the Jordan. We going in to take the land God promised us.”

Joshua Talks to the Eastern Tribes

12 Joshua hollered at the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

13 He said, “Remember what Moses told you all - ‘God is giving you rest and land.’”

14 “Your wives, kids, and animals can stay here on the east side. But all you soldiers - you must roll with your brothers and help them take theirs.”

15 “Do not come back until they got their land too. Then you can chill in your spot Moses gave you.”

The People Pledge Loyalty to Joshua

16 The people said, “Whatever you say, we will do. Wherever you send us, we will go.”

17 “Just like we listened to Moses, we will ride with you - As long as God is with you like He was with him.”

18 “Anybody who steps outta line or disrespects your word, We will deal with them. But you - be strong and courageous!”
