John 14

Read John 14 in clear, relatable modern language.

The Way to the Father

“Do not let your heart be troubled. Trust in God, trust in Me too.

In My Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it was not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so where I am, you can be also.”

“You know the way to where I am going.”

Thomas said, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how can we know the way?”

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also. From now on you know Him and have seen Him.”

If You Have Seen Me, You Have Seen the Father

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”

Jesus said, “Have I been with you this long and you still do not know Me, Philip, The one who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”

“Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, The words I say are not from Myself, but the Father living in Me does His works.

Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, or at least believe because of the works themselves.”

“For real, the one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do, and even greater works, because I am going to the Father.

Whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, so the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.”

The Promise of the Spirit

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so He may be with you forever.

That is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He stays with you and will be in you.”

“I will not leave you like orphans, I will come to you.

After a little while the world will not see Me anymore, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.

On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.”

“The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me, and the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”

Judas (not Iscariot) said, “Lord, what is going on that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”

Jesus answered, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”

“The one who does not love Me does not keep My words, and the word you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.”

Peace That Is Different

“I have said these things to you while I am still with you.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and remind you of everything I said to you.”

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not like the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled or afraid.”

“You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I will come back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.

I have told you now before it happens, so when it does happen, you may believe.”

The Time Is Coming

“I will not be talking with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.

But so the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.”
