Hebrews 3

Hold on and Do Not Harden Your Heart

1 So, holy family, you who share in heaven’s calling, keep your eyes on Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest we confess.

2 He was faithful to the God who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.

3 But Jesus deserves more glory than Moses, just like the builder of a house deserves more honor than the house itself.

4 Every house has a builder, but God is the builder of everything.

5 Moses was faithful as a servant in God’s whole house, pointing ahead to what God would later say.

6 Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. We are that house if we keep holding our confidence and hope firmly to the end.

7 That is why the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear God’s voice:”

8 “do not harden your hearts like Israel did when they rebelled and tested Me in the wilderness.”

9 “Your ancestors tested Me there, even though they watched My works for forty years.”

10 “That is why I was angry with that generation. I said, ‘Their hearts keep wandering, and they refuse to learn My ways.’”

11 “So in My anger I swore, ‘They will never enter My rest.’”

12 Watch yourselves, family. Do not let an evil, unbelieving heart grow inside you and pull you away from the living God.

13 Encourage one another every day, while it is still called “today,” so sin’s deception does not make any of you hard.

14 We share in Christ if we hold our original confidence firmly all the way to the end.

15 Remember the warning: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts like they did in rebellion.”

16 Who heard God and still rebelled, Was it not all the people Moses led out of Egypt,

17 Who made God angry for forty years, The people who sinned and whose bodies fell in the wilderness.

18 Who did God swear would never enter His rest, The people who refused to obey.

19 So we can see that unbelief is what kept them out.
