The Bride’s Beauty and Love

1 I am a wildflower of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.

2 He says, “Like a lily among thorns, that is my girl among other women.”

3 She says, “Like an apple tree among trees of the forest, that is my man. I sit under his shade, and his fruit sweet to me.”

4 He took me to the banquet hall; his banner over me love.

5 Feed me with raisins, refresh me with apples, I am faint with love.

6 His left arm under my head, his right arm embracing me.

7 Promise me, daughters of Jerusalem, do not stir up love till it is ready.

The Lover’s Arrival

8 Listen! My man coming, leaping over mountains, skipping hills.

9 He is like a gazelle or young stag. Look, he is outside my wall, peeking through the lattice.

10 He says, “Get up, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.”

11 “Winter past, the rain gone.”

12 “Flowers showing, birds singing, spring here.”

13 “The fig tree budding, vines blooming, get up, my love, come away.”

14 “My dove in the rock’s cleft, let me see your face, hear your voice; your voice sweet, your face lovely.”

15 Catch the foxes, those little foxes that ruin the vineyards while they bloom.

16 My man mine, and I am his, he grazes among lilies.

17 Till the day breaks and shadows fade, turn back, my love, like a gazelle on the mountains.
