Revelation 5

The Scroll and the Lamb

1 Then I saw in the right hand of the One on the throne a scroll, written on both sides and sealed up tight with seven seals.

2 A mighty angel called out in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?”

3 But nobody in heaven, on earth, or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it.

4 I started tearing up because nobody was found worthy to open the scroll or check out what was in it.

5 But one of the elders said to me, “Do not cry! Look, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has come through. He is worthy to open the scroll and crack those seals.”

6 Then I saw a Lamb, standing right there by the throne and the four living beings and the elders. It looked like it had been killed, but it was alive, with seven horns and seven eyes (which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth).

7 The Lamb stepped up and took the scroll from the right hand of the One sitting on the throne.

8 And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the 24 elders fell down before the Lamb. Each elder had a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

9 They started singing a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and crack those seals, because you were killed, and with your blood, you bought people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation.

10 You made them a kingdom and priests for our God, and they are going to reign on earth.”

11 Then I looked and heard the voices of tons of angels, thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They circled the throne, the living beings, and the elders,

12 And they shouted, “Worthy is the Lamb who was killed, to get power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing!”

13 Then I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea, all saying together, “To the One on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing, honor, glory, and power forever and ever!”

14 The four living beings said, “Amen!” And the elders bowed down and worshiped.
