Revelation 20

Read Revelation 20 in clear, relatable modern language.

Satan Bound

1 “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the keys to the abyss and a big chain in his hand.”

2 “He grabbed the dragon, that old snake, aka the devil, aka Satan, and tied him up for 1,000 years.”

3 “The angel threw him into the abyss, locked it up, and put a seal on it so he could not deceive the nations anymore until the 1,000 years were up. After that, he would be let out for a little while.

The Saints Reign with Christ

4 “Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them were given authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who got killed because they stood firm for Jesus and God’s Word. They had not worshiped the beast, his statue, or taken his mark on their foreheads or hands. They came back to life and reigned with Christ for 1,000 years.”

5 “This is the first resurrection. The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the 1,000 years were over.”

6 “Blessed and holy are the ones who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, they will be priests of God and Christ and will reign with Him for 1,000 years.

Satan’s Last Stand

7 “When the 1,000 years are up, Satan will be let out of his prison.”

8 “He will go out and try to deceive the nations again, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle. Their numbers will be like the sand on the beach.”

9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people and the beloved city. But fire came down from heaven and consumed them.

10 “Satan, who deceived them, will be thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are. They will be tormented day and night, forever.

The Final Judgment

11 “Then I saw a big, white throne and the One sitting on it. Earth and sky ran from His presence, and there was no place for them to hide.”

12 “I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. The books were opened, including the Book of Life. The dead were judged based on what they had done, as recorded in the books.”

13 “The sea gave up the dead in it, and death and Hades handed over the dead they held. Everyone was judged based on what they had done.”

14 “Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.”

15 “Anyone whose name was not found in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.”
