Revelation 16

The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath

1 I heard a loud voice from the temple tell the seven angels, “Go pour the seven bowls of God’s wrath over the earth.”

2 The first angel poured his bowl on the land, and painful, ugly sores broke out on everyone carrying the beast’s mark and worshiping its image.

3 The second angel poured his bowl into the sea. The water became like a dead person’s blood, and every living thing in the sea died.

4 The third angel poured his bowl into the rivers and springs, and they turned to blood.

5 I heard the angel over the waters say, “You are just, Holy One, who is and who was, because You judged these things.”

6 “They poured out the blood of Your saints and prophets, so You gave them blood to drink. That is what they deserve.”

7 Then I heard the altar answer, “Yes, Lord God Almighty, Your judgments are true and just.”

8 The fourth angel poured his bowl over the sun, and the sun received power to scorch people with fire.

9 People burned in the intense heat, yet they cursed God’s name, the One with authority over these plagues, and refused to repent and give Him glory.

10 The fifth angel poured his bowl over the beast’s throne. Its kingdom fell into darkness, and people bit their tongues from pain.

11 They cursed the God of heaven because of their pain and sores, but they still refused to turn away from their evil works.

12 The sixth angel poured his bowl over the great Euphrates River. Its water dried up, preparing a road for the kings from the east.

13 Then I saw three unclean spirits that looked like frogs coming from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet.

14 They were demonic spirits performing signs, going out to the rulers of the whole world to gather them for battle on the great day of God Almighty.

15 “Look, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps their clothes ready, so they do not walk around exposed and ashamed.”

16 The spirits gathered the rulers at the place called Armageddon in Hebrew.

17 The seventh angel poured his bowl into the air. A loud voice from the temple throne announced, “It is done!”

18 Lightning flashed, thunder crashed, and the greatest earthquake in human history shook the earth.

19 The great city split into three parts, and cities throughout the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of His fierce wrath.

20 Every island disappeared, and mountains could no longer be found.

21 Huge hailstones fell from heaven onto people. They cursed God because that hail plague was unbelievably severe.
