Psalms 97

The Reign of the Lord

1 The Lord is King; let the earth cheer; Let the islands of the sea be happy.

2 Clouds and darkness are all around Him; Righteousness and justice are the base of His throne.

3 A fire goes in front of Him And burns up His haters all around.

4 His lightning lit up the world; The earth saw and trembled.

5 The mountains melted like wax in front of the Lord, In front of the Lord of the whole earth.

6 The heavens told about His righteousness, And all the people saw His props.

A Call to Worship God Alone

7 Let all who serve carved idols be ashamed, Who brag in idols; Bow down to Him, all you gods.

8 Zion heard and was happy, And the daughters of Judah cheered, because of Your judgments, Lord.

9 Because You, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth; You are lifted high way more than all gods.

An Encouragement to the Righteous

10 You who love the Lord, hate evil! He keeps the lives of His faithful; He rescues them from the hand of the wicked.

11 Light is planted for the righteous, And happiness for the straight-up heart.

12 Be happy in the Lord, you righteous, And thank His holy name.
