Psalms 94
Read Psalms 94 in clear, relatable modern language.
A Prayer for God’s Vengeance
1 O God of vengeance, Lord, O God of vengeance, shine!
2 Get up, Judge of the earth; Pay back the proud what they earned.
3 How long will the wicked, Lord, How long will the wicked be happy,
4 They spit out big words; All the evil-doers talk big.
5 They crush Your people, Lord, And they hit Your inheritance.
6 They kill the widow and the foreigner, And they murder the orphan.
7 And they say, “The Lord does not see, And the God of Jacob do not get it.
A Rebuke to Fools
8 Get it, you clueless among the people; And you fools, when will you be wise,
9 He who planted the ear, will He not hear, He who made the eye, will He not see,
10 He who disciplines the nations, will He not call them out, He who teaches a dude knowledge, will He not know,
11 The Lord knows the thoughts of humans, That they are just a whisper.
A Promise to the Righteous
12 Happy is the dude whom You discipline, Lord, And teach him from Your law,
13 To give him peace from the days of evil, Until the pit is dug for the wicked.
14 Because the Lord will not ditch His people, And He will not leave His inheritance.
15 Because judgment will come back to righteousness, And all the straight-up people will follow it.
A Declaration of Trust
16 Who will get up for me against the evil-doers, Who will stand for me against those who do wrong,
17 If the Lord had not been my help, My soul would have been in the grave fast.
18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,” Your loyal grace, Lord, held me up.
19 When my insides were full of worries, Your comforts made my soul happy.
God’s Judgment
20 Can a messed-up throne be partners with You, Which makes trouble by law,
21 They squad up against the life of the righteous, And they look down on the innocent blood.
22 But the Lord became my fortress, And my God the rock of my safe spot.
23 And He will bring their own wrong on them, And will wipe them out in their own evil; The Lord our God will wipe them out.
