Psalms 7

Read Psalms 7 in clear, relatable modern language.

A Prayer for Justice

1 Lord, my God, I run to You for safety. Save me from all my chasers and rescue me.

2 Or they are going to tear me up like a lion, Ripping me to pieces with nobody to save me.

3 Lord my God, if I did that, If my hands are guilty,

4 If I did my homie wrong, If I robbed someone for no reason.

5 Then let my enemy chase me down and catch me. Let him walk all over me and throw my honor in the dirt.

God the Righteous Judge

6 Rise up, Lord, in Your anger! Stand up against the rage of my enemies. Wake up for me, You ordered justice.

7 Let the people gather ‘round You, And from up high, rule over them again.

8 The Lord judges the people. Judge me, Lord, based on my righteousness, On my clean hands.

9 Put an end to the wicked, But keep the righteous standing. You test our hearts and minds, You, the righteous God.

10 My shield is with God, Who saves the straight-up people.

11 God is a fair judge, A God who gets mad every day.

God’s Judgment

12 If they do not turn up, He will sharpen His sword; He has got His bow bent and ready.

13 He has got His deadly weapons ready; He has got fiery arrows aimed.

14 Look, the wicked dude’s pregnant with evil; He is giving birth to lies and messing up.

15 He digs a hole, deep and wide, But he is going to fall right into the pit he made.

16 His own trouble is going to come back on his head; His violence is going to drop on his own dome.

17 I am going to thank the Lord for His justice, And I will sing praises to the name of the Most High Lord.
