God’s Judgment on Israel
The Mighty One, God the Lord, spoke And called the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets.
From Zion, the perfect beauty, God shined.
Our God will come and will not be quiet; A fire eats in front of Him, And a storm surrounds Him.
He calls the heavens from up high and the earth, To judge His people:
“Gather My faithful ones to Me, Who made a promise with Me with a sacrifice.”
And the heavens will talk about His righteousness, because God Himself is the judge.
A Call for True Worship
“Listen, My people, and I will speak; Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God.
I am not going to call you out for your sacrifices; Your burnt offerings are always in front of Me.
I am not going to take a bull from your house, Or goats from your yards.
Because every animal of the forest is Mine, And the cows on a thousand hills.
I know all the birds of the mountains, And the animals of the field are with Me.
If I was hungry, I would not tell you, because the world and everything in it is Mine.
Do I eat the meat of bulls, Or drink the blood of goats,
Offer a sacrifice of thanks to God, And pay your promises to the Most High.
And call on Me in the day of trouble; I will rescue you, and you will give Me props.
A Warning to the Wicked
But to the wicked, God says: “What right you got to tell about My rules Or to have My promise on your mouth,
Because you hate being disciplined And you throw My words behind you.
When you see a thief, you chill with him, And you hang out with people who cheat on their partners.
You let your mouth talk evil, And your tongue puts together lies.
You sit and talk slick against your brother; You diss your mom’s son.
You did this, and I was quiet; You thought I was just like you. But I will call you out and lay it all out for you.
“Now get this, you who forget God, Or I will tear you up, and nobody is going to rescue you.
The one who offers a sacrifice of thanks gives Me props; And the one who sets his way straight, I will show him the rescue of God.”
