Urban Word Bible
Psalms 19
Read Psalms 19 in clear, relatable modern language.
God’s Story in the Heavens
1 The heavens tell the story of God’s glory; The sky shows His handiwork.
2 Day after day they spill out speech; Night after night they show knowledge.
3 There is no speech, there are no words; Their voice is not heard.
4 But their line goes out through the whole earth, And their words to the ends of the world. In them He set a tent for the sun.
5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his room, It is happy like a champ running a race.
6 It comes from one side of the heavens And goes to the other side; There is nothing hidden from its heat.
God’s Story in the Law
7 The Lord’s law is perfect, it restores the soul. The Lord’s rules are trustworthy, it makes the simple wise.
8 The Lord’s orders are straight, they make the heart happy. The Lord’s command is pure, it lights up the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, it stands forever. The Lord’s judgments are true and completely fair.
10 They more valuable than gold, a bunch of it; Sweeter than honey dripping from the honeycomb.
11 By them, Your servant is warned; In keeping them, there is a big reward.
A Prayer for Purity
12 Who can tell his own mistakes, Clear me from the hidden sins.
13 Keep Your servant from being too proud; Do not let them get a hold of me. Then I will be clean, And innocent of big-time sin.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart Be straight with You, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
