God Tells Moses the Borders of Canaan

1 The Lord spoke to Moses.

2 “Tell the Israelites: When you all enter the land of Canaan, these are the official borders of the land I am giving you.”

Southern Border

3 “Your southern border will start from the wilderness of Zin along the edge of Edom. It will extend from the east side of the Dead Sea.”

4 “Then it will turn south to Scorpion Pass, go through Zin, and end at Kadesh-Barnea. From there, it will go to Hazar-Addar and then to Azmon.”

5 “From Azmon, the border will follow the brook of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.”

Western Border

6 “Your western border will be the Mediterranean Sea, that is your boundary to the west.”

Northern Border

7 “Your northern border will run from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor.”

8 “From Mount Hor, it will go to Lebohamath, then to Zedad.”

9 “From there, it will go to Ziphron and end at Hazar-Enan, that is your northern border.”

Eastern Border

10 “Your eastern border will run from Hazar-Enan to Shepham.”

11 “From Shepham, it will go down to Riblah, east of Ain, then along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee.”

12 “Then it will go down the Jordan River and end at the Dead Sea. These are your official borders.”

God Tells Moses to Divide the Land

13 Moses told the Israelites, “This is the land you all will inherit. The Lord has commanded that it be divided among the nine and a half tribes.”

14 “The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh have already received their share on the east side of the Jordan.”

15 “They took their land on the east side, across from Jericho.”

Leaders Assigned to Divide the Land

16 The Lord told Moses.

17 “Here are the leaders who will divide the land among the Israelites: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.”

18 “Each tribe must also send a leader to help divide the land.”

Tribal Leaders Assigned

19 Here are the leaders chosen from each tribe: Judah → Caleb (son of Jephunneh)

20 Simeon → Shemuel (son of Ammihud)

21 Benjamin → Elidad (son of Kislon)

22 Dan → Bukki (son of Jogli)

23 Manasseh (Joseph’s son) → Hanniel (son of Ephod)

24 Ephraim (Joseph’s son) → Kemuel (son of Shiphtan)

25 Zebulun → Elizaphan (son of Parnach)

26 Issachar → Paltiel (son of Azzan)

27 Asher → Ahihud (son of Shelomi)

28 Naphtali → Pedahel (son of Ammihud)

Final Command

29 These are the men the Lord commanded to divide the land among the Israelites in Canaan.
