Leviticus 7

The Guilt Offering Rules

1 These are the rules for the guilt offering. It is most holy.

2 The guilt offering must be slaughtered in the same place as the burnt offering, and the priest must splash its blood on all sides of the altar.

3 All its fat must be offered, the fat tail, the fat covering the organs,

4 The kidneys, the fat near the liver, and the long lobe of the liver must be removed.

5 The priest must burn them on the altar as a fire offering to the Lord. This is a guilt offering.

6 Any male priest may eat it, but it must be eaten in a holy place. This offering is most holy.

7 The same rules apply for both the sin offering and the guilt offering. The meat belongs to the priest who makes atonement with it.

8 If a priest offers a burnt offering for someone, he gets to keep the animal’s skin.

9 Any grain offering that is baked in an oven, cooked on a griddle, or fried in a pan belongs to the priest who offers it.

10 But all other grain offerings mixed with oil or dry must be shared equally among all the priests.

Rules for Peace Offerings

11 These are the rules for the peace offering someone gives to the Lord.

12 If it is a thanksgiving offering, they must also bring unleavened bread made with fine flour and olive oil, thin wafers brushed with oil, and loaves of fine flour mixed with oil.

13 They must also bring loaves of bread made with yeast, along with their peace offering.

14 One loaf from each kind must be given to the priest who splashes the blood of the peace offering.

15 The meat of the thanksgiving peace offering must be eaten the same day it is offered. None of it can be left until morning.

16 If the peace offering is for a vow or a freewill offering, the meat can be eaten the same day or the next day.

17 But any leftover meat must be burned up on the third day.

18 If anyone eats meat from the peace offering on the third day, it will not be accepted. It will not count for anything, and the person who eats it will bear their guilt.

19 If any meat from the peace offering touches something unclean, it must not be eaten. It must be burned up. Anyone who is clean may eat the meat.

20 But if someone who is unclean eats from the peace offering, they must be cut off from the people.

21 If someone touches something unclean, like a dead body or any kind of unclean thing, and then eats the peace offering, they must be cut off from the people.

Forbidden Foods: Fat and Blood

22 Then the Lord told Moses.

23 Tell the Israelites, do not eat any fat from oxen, sheep, or goats.

24 You may use animal fat for other things, but you must never eat it.

25 Anyone who eats the fat of an animal sacrificed to the Lord must be cut off from the people.

26 You must never eat blood, whether from a bird or an animal, no matter where you live.

27 Anyone who eats blood must be cut off from the people.

The Priests’ Share of the Offerings

28 Then the Lord told Moses.

29 Tell the Israelites, anyone bringing a peace offering to the Lord must also bring a part of it as an offering to Him.

30 They must bring the fat and the breast, lifting the breast as a special offering before the Lord.

31 The priest will burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons.

32 You must also give the right thigh to the priest as a gift from your peace offering.

33 The priest who offers the blood and fat of the peace offering gets to keep the right thigh as his portion.

34 I have given the breast and the right thigh from the Israelites’ peace offerings to Aaron and his sons as their share forever.

35 This is their portion from the Lord’s fire offerings since the day they were anointed as priests.

36 The Lord commanded the Israelites to give this portion to the priests forever, for all generations.

Closing Instructions

37 These are the rules for the burnt offering, grain offering, sin offering, guilt offering, ordination offering, and peace offering.

38 The Lord gave these commands to Moses on Mount Sinai when He told the Israelites to bring their offerings to Him in the wilderness.
