Leviticus 3

Read Leviticus 3 in clear, relatable modern language.

Laws for Peace Offerings

1 The Lord told Moses, If someone brings a peace offering from the herd, it must be a perfect animal, no defects, male or female.

2 They must lay their hands on the animal’s head and then slaughter it at the entrance of the Tabernacle. Aaron’s sons, the priests, will splash the blood on all sides of the altar.

3 Then, as an offering to Me, they must burn the fat from the internal organs.

4 That includes the kidneys, the fat near the liver, and the long lobe of the liver.

5 The priests will burn these parts on the altar, on top of the burnt offering. This fire offering is a sweet-smelling gift to Me.

Bringing a Peace Offering from Sheep

6 If someone brings a peace offering from the flock, sheep or goat, it must be a perfect animal, male or female, no defects.

7 If they bring a lamb, they must lay their hands on its head and then slaughter it in front of the Tabernacle.

8 Aaron’s sons will splash its blood on all sides of the altar.

9 They must burn the best parts as an offering to Me, the fat around the internal organs, the tail fat (cut off close to the backbone),

10 The kidneys, the fat near the liver, and the long lobe of the liver.

11 The priest will burn these parts on the altar as food for Me, cooked in My fire.

Bringing a Peace Offering from Goats

12 If someone brings a goat as a peace offering to Me,

13 They must lay their hands on its head and then slaughter it in front of the Tabernacle. Aaron’s sons will splash the blood on all sides of the altar.

14 They must burn the fat around the internal organs, the kidneys, and the fat near the liver.

15 That long lobe of the liver too, burn all that as an offering to Me.

16 The priest will burn these parts on the altar as food for Me, cooked in My fire. This is a sweet-smelling gift.

17 This is a rule forever for all generations: Do not eat any fat or blood, ever, no matter where you live.
