Cleansing Someone Who Had a Skin Disease

1 The Lord spoke to Moses.

2 These are the instructions for anyone who had a skin disease and is ready to be made clean. They must be brought to the priest.

3 The priest must go outside the camp and examine them. If they are healed from the skin disease,

4 The priest will order two clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop to be brought for their cleansing.

5 The priest will have one of the birds slaughtered over fresh water in a clay pot.

6 Then he will take the live bird, along with the cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop, and dip them into the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the fresh water.

7 He will sprinkle the blood on the person being cleansed seven times and declare them clean. Then he will release the live bird into the open fields.

The Cleansing Process for the Person

8 The person being cleansed must wash their clothes, shave off all their hair, and bathe in water. Then they will be clean. After that, they may come back into the camp, but they must stay outside their tent for seven days.

9 On the seventh day, they must shave off all their hair again, including their head, beard, and eyebrows. They must wash their clothes and bathe again, then they will be completely clean.

The Sacrifices on the Eighth Day

10 On the eighth day, they must bring two male lambs, a one-year-old female lamb, all with no defects, plus six quarts of fine flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, and a log of oil.

11 The priest who declares them clean will present them before the Lord at the entrance of the Tabernacle.

12 The priest will take one of the male lambs and the log of oil and lift them as a special offering before the Lord. This is the guilt offering.

13 The lamb must be slaughtered in the same holy place as the sin offering and burnt offering. The guilt offering belongs to the priest, just like the sin offering. It is most holy.

14 The priest will take some of the blood from the guilt offering and put it on the right earlobe, right thumb, and right big toe of the person being cleansed.

15 Then the priest will take some of the oil and pour it into his left palm.

16 He will dip his right finger into the oil in his left palm and sprinkle it before the Lord seven times.

17 Then he will put some of the oil on the right earlobe, right thumb, and right big toe of the person being cleansed, on top of the blood from the guilt offering.

18 The rest of the oil in his palm will be put on the head of the person being cleansed. The priest will make atonement for them before the Lord.

19 Then the priest will offer the sin offering to make atonement for them and cleanse them from their sin. After that, he will slaughter the burnt offering.

20 The priest will sacrifice the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar. This will make atonement for them, and they will be clean.

If They Cannot Afford the Regular Offerings

21 If they are poor and cannot afford the normal offerings, they must bring one male lamb for a guilt offering, plus two quarts of fine flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, and a log of oil.

22 They must also bring two doves or two young pigeons, one for a sin offering and one for a burnt offering.

23 On the eighth day, they must bring them to the priest at the entrance of the Tabernacle before the Lord.

24 The priest will take the lamb for the guilt offering, along with the log of oil, and lift them as a special offering before the Lord.

25 He will slaughter the lamb and take some of its blood and put it on the right earlobe, right thumb, and right big toe of the person being cleansed.

26 The priest will pour some of the oil into his left palm.

27 He will sprinkle some of the oil with his right finger before the Lord seven times.

28 He will put some of the oil on the right earlobe, right thumb, and right big toe of the person being cleansed, just like with the guilt offering.

29 The rest of the oil in his palm will be put on the head of the person being cleansed to make atonement for them before the Lord.

30 Then he will offer one of the doves or pigeons as a sin offering.

31 He will offer the other bird along with the grain offering as a burnt offering. This will make atonement for them, and they will be clean.

32 These are the instructions for anyone who had a skin disease and cannot afford the regular offerings.

Cleansing a House with Mold

33 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron.

34 When you enter the land I am giving you and I put mold in a house there,

35 The owner must go tell the priest, I see something like mold in my house.

36 Before the priest enters the house to examine it, he must order everything in the house to be removed so nothing inside becomes unclean. Then he will go inside and inspect the mold.

37 If the mold is greenish or reddish and has spread on the walls,

38 The priest will leave the house and close it up for seven days.

39 On the seventh day, he will return to check it. If the mold has spread,

40 He will order the affected stones to be removed and thrown into an unclean place outside the city.

41 The walls of the house must be scraped clean, and the scraped-off dust must be dumped outside the city.

42 Then new stones must be put in place, and the house must be replastered.

43 If the mold comes back after the house has been repaired,

44 The priest must inspect it again. If the mold has spread, it is a serious problem, and the house is unclean.

45 The house must be torn down, including its stones, wood, and plaster, and everything must be taken outside the city to an unclean place.

46 Anyone who enters the house while it is closed up will be unclean until evening.

47 Anyone who sleeps or eats inside must wash their clothes.

48 But if the priest checks and the mold has not spread, he will declare the house clean because the mold is gone.

49 To purify the house, the priest will take two birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop.

50 He will slaughter one of the birds over fresh water in a clay pot.

51 Then he will dip the live bird, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop into the blood and sprinkle it on the house seven times.

52 He will use the blood to purify the house.

53 Then he will release the live bird into the open fields. This will make atonement for the house, and it will be clean.

54 These are the instructions for dealing with skin diseases,

55 Mold, skin rashes, and mildew,

56 Swellings, rashes, and discolored spots,

57 To determine when something is clean or unclean. These are the instructions for dealing with skin diseases and mold.
