God Tells Joshua: There Is Still More to Take
1 Joshua was getting’ up there in age, and God said, “You old now, but there is still a lot of land left to take over.”
2 “Here is what is left: all the land of the Philistines and the Geshurites -”
3 “From the Shihor River near Egypt up to Ekron (that is still Canaanite land). Five Philistine bosses run those: Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron - Plus the Avvites.”
4 “And the south all the way to the land of the Sidonians, And the Amorite territory.”
5 “From Gebal to Lebo-hamath and all of Lebanon east of Baal-gad below Mount Hermon.”
6 “All the hill people in Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim - I am going to drive them out Myself. You just make sure to give the land to Israel, just like I told you.”
7 “Split it up - nine and a half tribes get land west of the Jordan. Give them their cut now.”
Tribes on the East Side (Before Jordan Was Crossed)
8 The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh already got theirs On the east side - like Moses gave them before you all crossed over.
9 They got land from Aroer by the Arnon River, the town in the middle of the valley, And half the hill country of Gilead - the kingdom of Sihon, king of Heshbon.
10 Also the lands of the Amorite kings - Including the OG giant Og, king of Bashan, who reigned at Ashtaroth and Edrei.
11 All the land of the Rephaim (the giants), from Gilead to Bashan, and the towns of Jair.
12 Og was the last of the Rephaim kings. Moses whooped him and took his kingdom.
13 But Israel did not drive out the Geshurites and Maacathites - So they still living there to this day.
Levites Got No Land - They Got the Lord
14 Moses did not give the tribe of Levi any land - because their inheritance is the Lord Himself and the offerings made to Him.
Land Given to Reuben’s Tribe
15 Moses gave land to the tribe of Reuben, clan by clan.
16 Their land started at Aroer by the Arnon River, Included Medeba’s plain and the whole city of Heshbon,
17 Plus all the towns on the plateau - Dibon, Bamoth-baal, Beth-baal-meon,
18 Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,
19 Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley,
20 Beth-peor, slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth.
21 That is all the towns in the kingdom of Sihon - The king of the Amorites who Moses dropped.
22 Also - they killed Balaam, that shady prophet who tried to curse Israel for cash.
23 The Jordan River was Reuben’s border. That is the land Moses gave Reuben’s tribe, clan by clan.
Land Given to Gad’s Tribe
24 Moses gave land to Gad, clan by clan.
25 Their land included Jazer, all the towns of Gilead, and half the land of Ammon to Aroer near Rabbah,
26 And from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, To Mahanaim and the border with Debir.
27 Also Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, Zaphon - The rest of the kingdom of Sihon. The Jordan was their border on the west. That is what Moses gave to Gad’s tribe, clan by clan.
Land Given to Half-tribe of Manasseh (East Side)
28 That is the breakdown for Reuben and Gad. Now for the half-tribe of Manasseh (on the east side):
29 Moses gave their families land too:
30 Their territory started from Mahanaim - All of Bashan, the whole kingdom of Og, And all 60 towns of Jair in Bashan.
31 Also half of Gilead, Ashtaroth, and Edrei - That was OG Og’s main turf. That went to the clans of Machir, son of Manasseh.
Moses Gave It While on the East Side
32 All this land Moses handed out while camped on the plains of Moab, Across the Jordan east of Jericho.
Reminder: Levi Got No Land
33 But Moses gave no land to the Levites - because the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance. And that is all they needed.
