Joshua 11

Read Joshua 11 in clear, relatable modern language.

Northern Kings Link Up Against Israel

1 When King Jabin of Hazor heard about all this, He hit up the kings of Madon, Shimron, and Achshaph,

2 Plus kings in the north hill country, In the valleys, along the coasts, and in the mountains near Hermon.

3 He brought in the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, and Hivites - Basically everybody.

4 They came through deep - With a massive army, more people than you could count. They had horses and chariots too - real battle-ready.

5 All these kings met up and camped near the waters of Merom To squad up against Israel.

God Gives Joshua the Word

6 God told Joshua, “Do not be shook about this huge army. Tomorrow this time, I am going to hand them over dead. And when you win - destroy their horses and burn their chariots.”

Joshua Pulls Up and Crushes Them

7 So Joshua and his crew pulled up fast, hit them by the waters of Merom, And surprised them with a straight-up ambush.

8 God gave them the W. Israel chased them down all over the place - From Greater Sidon to Misrephoth Maim and east to the Valley of Mizpeh. Nobody survived.

9 Just like God told him, Joshua disabled their horses and torched their chariots.

Joshua Takes Out Hazor

10 Then Joshua came back and took Hazor, Killed the king, and wiped everybody out. Hazor used to be the head of all those kingdoms.

11 They took out every soul - men, women, kids. Burned the whole city to the ground.

12 Joshua took all the cities from those kings - Killed the kings, no mercy, just like Moses commanded.

13 Israel did not burn most of the cities - just Hazor. That was the only one they torched.

14 They took the loot and the livestock, But they killed every person - no survivors.

15 Joshua did exactly what God told Moses, And Moses passed to him - Joshua followed through with full obedience.

Total Conquest of the Land

16 Joshua took the whole land - Hill country, valleys, desert, mountains - north and south.

17 From Mount Halak to Baal Gad in Lebanon - Joshua took out all the kings and did not stop till it was done.

18 The campaign took time - Joshua was at war a long stretch.

19 No city made peace with Israel except Gibeon. Everyone else tried to fight and got dropped.

20 God let their hearts get bold so they would try to fight - Just so He could wipe them out. That was part of the plan.

Giants Get Wiped Too

21 Joshua even cleared out the Anakim - Big giants who lived in the hill country. Took out their cities in Hebron, Debir, Anab, and all Judah and Israel hills.

22 No giants left in Israel’s land, except a few that slipped away to Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod.

Mission Complete

23 So Joshua took the whole land - Just like God told Moses - and gave it out to the tribes. Then the war was over and the land had peace.
