Job 27

Read Job 27 in clear, relatable modern language.

Job Swears He Is Not Fronting

Job kept going with his speech.

“As surely as God lives, the One who denied me justice, the Almighty who made my soul bitter.

As long as I got breath in my lungs, and the spirit of God keeps me alive,

My lips is not speaking lies, and my tongue will not be twisting facts.

Far from it, I will never admit you all are right. I am going to hold tight to my innocence till I die.

I will stand on my righteousness, will not let it go. My heart is not condemning me for the way I am living.”

The Fate of the Wicked

“May my enemy end up like the wicked, and the one fighting me like the unrighteous.

Because what hope do the godless got when God cuts them off, when He takes their life,

Will God hear their cries when trouble crashes down,

Will they find delight in the Almighty, Will they keep calling on God every day,

Job Breaks Down the Wicked’s End

“Let me school you all on God’s power; I will break down what the Almighty is about.

Look, all of you have seen this stuff yourselves, so why are you spitting nonsense?

This is the wicked man’s portion with God, the inheritance oppressors get from the Almighty:

If they got mad kids, they only grow up for the sword; their children are not eating enough.

Those who survive going to die from disease, and their widows will not even cry for them.

If he stacks silver like dust, piles clothes like dirt,

It is the righteous who going to wear that drip, the innocent who going to spend that silver.

The house he builds is flimsy like a moth’s crib, like a shack thrown together by a guard.

He will go to sleep rich, but he will not get up the same, when he opens his eyes, everything is gone.

Terror sweeps him away like a flood; a storm snatches him in the night.

The east wind picks him up and he has gone, it sweeps him clean out his spot.

God pelts him without mercy; he tries to flee, but cannot escape.

People clap their hands at him, hiss him off the block, outta his place.”
