Urban Word Bible
Job 23
Read Job 23 in clear, relatable modern language.
Job Wants His Day in Court
1 Then Job answered,
2 “Man, even today my complaint is bitter, my hand heavy with pain.
3 If only I knew where to find God, I would pull up to His spot.
4 I would lay my case out straight, my mouth full of arguments.
5 I would know the words He would reply with, I would catch what He says back.
6 Would He crush me with His power, Nah, He would give me a fair hearing.
7 An honest man could argue his case with Him, and I would be cleared for good by my Judge.”
Job Struggles to Find God
8 “Look, I go east, He is not there; west, I cannot find Him.
9 North, He has hidden; south, I still do not see Him.
10 But He knows the path I am walking; when He has done testing me, I will come out shining like gold.
11 My feet stayed on His tracks, I kept His way without slipping.
12 I did not ditch His commands, I treasured His words more than food.
Job Talks About God’s Unstoppable Will
13 “But God does not change, who can stop Him, What He wants, He does.
14 He will finish what He has planned for me; He has got plenty lined up.
15 That is why I am shook before Him; when I think of Him, fear grips me.
16 God made my heart weak, the Almighty has scared me.
17 But I am not silenced by the darkness, nor by thick gloom covering me.”
