Isaiah 55

Read Isaiah 55 in clear, relatable modern language.

Come to the Lord and Live

1 Come, all you who thirsty, come to the waters. You who got no money, come buy and eat. Come get wine and milk without money and without cost.

2 Why spend your money on what is not real food, why work hard for what does not satisfy, listen to Me and eat what is good, your soul will delight in rich food.

3 Come to Me with your ear open. Listen, and you will live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, the sure love I promised David.

4 I made him a witness to the nations, a leader and commander for the peoples.

5 You will call nations you do not know. And nations that does not know you will run to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for He has glorified you.

Seek the Lord

6 Seek the Lord while He can be found. Call on Him while He is near.

7 Let the wicked drop their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on them. And to our God, for He will freely forgive.

God’s Thoughts Are Higher

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways,” says the Lord.

9 “As high as the heavens are above the earth, that is how much higher My ways are above your ways and My thoughts above your thoughts.”

God’s Word Always Works

10 Just like rain and snow come down from the sky and do not return without watering the earth. Making it grow and produce seed and bread.

11 So is My Word that goes out from My mouth. It will not return empty, it will do what I sent it to do and accomplish what I please.

Joyful Restoration

12 You will go out in joy and be led out in peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and the trees will clap their hands.

13 Instead of thorn bushes, cypress trees will grow. Instead of briers, myrtle trees will rise up. This will be for the Lord’s fame. A lasting sign that will not ever fade.
