Isaiah 54

Rejoice, Barren Woman

1 Sing, barren woman, you who never had children. Shout with joy and sing loud, you who never gave birth. Because the deserted woman will have more children than the married wife, says the Lord.

2 Enlarge your tent. Stretch out your curtains. Do not hold back. Make your ropes longer and your stakes stronger.

3 You are going to spread out to the right and left. Your descendants will take over nations and fill abandoned cities.

Fear Not, God Is Your Husband

4 Do not be afraid, you will not be ashamed. Do not be embarrassed, you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and not remember the disgrace of widowhood.

5 For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of Armies is His name. The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, He has called the God of all the earth.

6 The Lord has called you back, like a wife abandoned and filled with sorrow. Like a wife rejected in her youth, says your God.

God’s Compassion Returns

7 For a brief moment I left you, but with deep love I will bring you back.

8 I hid My face from you for a moment in anger. But with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you, says the Lord your Redeemer.

9 To Me, this is like Noah’s flood. I swore the waters would not cover the earth again. And now I swear I will not be angry with you or rebuke you anymore.

10 The mountains may move and hills may shake. But My love will not leave you, and My peace covenant will not break?” Says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

Beauty from Suffering

11 Poor city, storm-tossed and not comforted. I am going to lay your stones with bright colors and set your foundation with sapphires.

12 I will make your towers of rubies, your gates of sparkling jewels, and your walls of precious stones.

13 All your children will be taught by the Lord, and they will have deep peace.

No Weapon Formed Will Succeed

14 You will be established in righteousness. You will be far from oppression, you will not fear it. Far from terror, it will not come near you.

15 If anyone attacks you, it is not from Me. Whoever comes against you will fall because of you.

16 I created the blacksmith who blows on the coals and forges weapons. And I created the destroyer who brings ruin.

17 No weapon formed against you will work. Every tongue that rises up to accuse you, you will shut it down. This is the heritage of the Lord’s servants. And their righteousness comes from Me,” says the Lord.
