Urban Word Bible
Isaiah 32
Read Isaiah 32 in clear, relatable modern language.
A Righteous King Will Rule
1 Look, a King is going to rule with righteousness, and leaders under Him is going to lead with justice.
2 Each one will be like shelter from the wind, a safe place from the storm, like streams of water in a dry desert, and the shade of a big rock in a worn-out land.
3 Then people’s eyes will finally see, and their ears will actually listen.
4 The hearts of those who used to rush to foolishness will start understanding truth, and the stammering tongues will speak clear and strong.
5 No more calling fools “wise” or treating liars like they honorable.
6 Because fools talk foolish and make evil plans. They disrespect God, spread lies about Him, and keep the hungry empty and the thirsty dry.
7 The schemer uses slick talk and lies to trap the poor, even when the needy plead for what is right.
8 But the real ones, the noble ones, make solid plans, and they stand firm on doing right.
Warning to the Women Living Easy
9 Wake up, you women living comfortable, listen to me! You daughters feeling safe and relaxed, pay attention.
10 In a little more than a year, you will start shaking, because the grape harvest is going to fail and there will not be any fruit on the vines.
11 Tremble, you women who been living easy. Strip off your comfort, throw on sackcloth, and humble yourselves.
12 Beat your chest and mourn for the good fields and the fruitful vines that used to bless you.
13 Cry for the land of my people, where thorns and weeds are going to take over, even over the houses of joy and the city full of fun.
14 The palace is going to be empty, the busy city quiet. The towers and forts will be abandoned forever, wild donkeys and sheep grazing where people used to live.
God’s Spirit Brings Renewal
15 This all are going to happen until the Spirit of God is poured out from heaven. Then the wilderness will turn into a fruitful field, and the field will grow into a forest.
16 Justice is going to live in the wilderness, and righteousness are going to settle down in the fertile land.
17 The result of righteousness will be peace, quiet confidence and security forever.
18 My people are going to live in peaceful homes, safe houses, calm and secure.
19 Even if hail knocks down the forest and the city gets leveled,
20 Blessed are the ones planting beside the waters, letting their ox and donkey roam free.
