Isaiah 31

Woe to Those Who Trust Egypt Instead of God

1 Woe to the ones running to Egypt for help, trusting in horses, counting chariots because they got a lot, and leaning on strong riders, but not looking to the Holy One of Israel or asking the Lord for help.

2 But God’s wise, He is going to bring disaster and will not take back His words. He will rise up against the evildoers and the ones helping them do wrong.

3 The Egyptians just people, not God. Their horses just flesh, not spirit. When the Lord stretches out His hand, both the one giving help and the one getting help is going to fall. They all going down together.

God Himself Is Going to Protect His People

4 The Lord showed me this: like a lion growling over its prey, even if a crowd of shepherds show up yelling, it is not scared or backing off, that is How is the Lord of Armies are going to come down to fight for Mount Zion and Jerusalem.

5 Like birds flying overhead, the Lord of Armies are going to protect Jerusalem. He will guard it, rescue it, and cover it.

6 Come back to Him, you all, all you Israelites who been wilding and turning your backs on Him.

7 Because in that day, you all are going to toss out your idols, all that silver and gold junk you made with your own hands that pulled you into sin.

Assyria’s Fall

8 Then Assyria is going to fall, but not from some man-made sword. A weapon not built by man is going to take them out. They are going to run from that sword, and their young men are going to end up as slaves.

9 Their fortress are going to crumble from fear, and their commanders are going to panic when they see God’s banner waving. That is what the Lord says, the One whose fire burns in Zion and whose furnace blazes in Jerusalem.
