Isaiah 28

God Calls Out the Drunk and Prideful Leaders

1 Listen, sorrow is coming for the proud leaders of Ephraim, them drunk dudes showing off their little crowns, living high up in that valley thinking they got it made. Their so-called beauty, Man, it is fading fast.

2 The Lord got someone strong coming, like a storm with hail and heavy rain, tearing through everything in its way. He is going to smash that pride right into the dirt.

3 That so-called “royal crown” of Ephraim’s drunks, It is about to get stomped on.

4 That beauty they brag about on that high hill, it is like an early fig. Soon as somebody spots it, they pluck it and eat it. Quick and gone.

The Lord Is Going to Be the Real Crown

5 But when that day comes, the Lord of Armies Himself is going to be the real crown, His glory shining on the ones who stayed loyal to Him.

6 He will give justice to the judges and strength to the soldiers who stand their ground when the enemy comes to the gate.

The Priests and Prophets Getting Drunk Off Their Own Lies

7 But man, even the priests and prophets out here tripping. They are drunk, stumbling on their own words. They messed up in their visions and cannot make a straight judgment because the bottle got them gone.

8 Their tables look nasty, full of vomit, filth everywhere. There is not a clean spot left.

9 They mocking, saying, “Who this man think he teaching, Babies fresh off milk, Kids just off the bottle?”

10 “Line after line, rule after rule, little here, little there, man, this stuff basic!”

11 So God said, “Aight then. I am going to speak to you all through people that does not even speak your language.”

12 He told you all, “This is where you find rest, where you get refreshed,” but you all did not want to listen.

13 So now His Word is going to sound just like what you all mocked, “line after line, rule after rule”, and you are going to trip over it and fall flat on your face.

Warning to the Big Talkers in Jerusalem

14 Listen up, you loudmouth leaders in Jerusalem who think you run stuff.

15 You all brag, “We made a deal with death, an agreement with the grave. When trouble comes, it is not touching us; we are good behind our lies.”

16 But God says, “Look, I am laying down a stone in Zion, a tested, solid cornerstone. Whoever stands on it will not shake or panic.”

17 “I am measuring everything by My justice, leveling it with righteousness. Your lies are going to get washed away like trash in a flood.”

18 “That little contract you made with death, Canceled. That deal with the grave, Void. When destruction comes rolling through, it is going to crush you.”

19 Every time it passes, it is taking somebody out. Morning, night, constant fear. That message you ignored is going to haunt you.

20 You will try to rest, but the bed too short. You will try to cover up, but the blanket too small. No comfort, no peace.

God About to Move Different

21 The Lord is going to rise up like He did at Perazim. He is going to shake the ground like He did in Gibeon. This work He about to do, It is strange, something you all have not seen before.

22 So stop mocking before you make your chains tighter, because I already heard from the Lord of Armies, the destruction that has been planned is going to hit the whole land.

God’s Wisdom Is Deeper Than Man’s

23 Listen up! Hear what I am saying.

24 A farmer do not plow the ground forever, he break it up to plant something.

25 When it is ready, he puts the seeds where they belong, some dill, some cumin, some wheat, some barley, all in their spots.

26 God the one who taught him that, gave him that wisdom.

27 You do not crush dill with a hammer or roll wheels over cumin. You beat it gently with a stick.

28 Grain must be crushed for bread, but you do not grind it to powder. You stop when it is right.

29 This all comes from the Lord of Armies, the One who is wise in what He does and deep in how He thinks.
