Isaiah 27

The Lord Will Punish the Serpent

1 In that day, the Lord, with His fierce, great, and strong sword, will punish Leviathan, that twisted, fleeing serpent. He will kill the dragon that lives in the sea.

The Lord’s Vineyard Restored

2 In that day, sing about the Lord’s vineyard, a vineyard of wine!

3 “I, the Lord, watch over it. I water it every moment. I guard it day and night so no one can harm it.”

4 “I am not angry anymore. But if anyone tries to attack it, I will fight them, I will burn them up together.”

5 “Or let them come to Me for safety. Let them make peace with Me, yes, let them make peace with Me.”

Israel Will Flourish Again

6 In the days to come, Jacob will take root, Israel will blossom and grow, and they will fill the whole world with fruit.

7 Has God struck Israel like He struck her enemies, Has He killed her like He killed those who attacked her,

8 No, He dealt with her by measure, sending her away only for a time. With His harsh breath, He drove her out, just enough to turn her heart back.

9 This is how Jacob’s guilt will be taken away, and this is the fruit of removing his sin: when he crushes the altar stones to dust, and no Asherah poles or incense altars are left standing.

The Ruined City

10 The fortified city stands empty, deserted like a wilderness. Calves graze there, lying down and eating up its branches.

11 When its twigs are dry, they break off; women use them for firewood. For this people lacks understanding, so their Maker will not have compassion, and their Creator will not show them grace.

God Gathers His People

12 In that day, the Lord will thresh from the Euphrates River to the Brook of Egypt, and you, Israelites, will be gathered one by one.

13 In that day, a great trumpet will sound, and those lost in Assyria and those driven out to Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.
