Isaiah 15

The Mourning of Moab

1 This is the message about Moab: Overnight, Ar in Moab was wiped out, gone. Overnight, Kir in Moab was destroyed, gone.

2 They have gone up to the temple and to Dibon’s high places to cry. Moab’s weeping over Nebo and Medeba, every head shaved, every beard cut off.

3 In the streets they wear sackcloth; on the rooftops and in the squares, everyone is crying and breaking down.

4 Heshbon and Elealeh are shouting, their voices echo all the way to Jahaz. Even Moab’s toughest soldiers are shaking in fear, their hearts melting inside them.

Moab’s Destruction Spreads

5 My heart cries for Moab, their refugees are running as far as Zoar and Eglath Shelishiyah. They climb the road to Luhith, weeping as they go. On the way to Horonaim, their cries of destruction can be heard.

6 The waters of Nimrim have dried up, the grass is gone, nothing green left.

7 So the people grab whatever they can carry and haul it across the Brook of the Willows.

8 The whole land of Moab is crying out, the sound reaches Eglaim and echoes all the way to Beer-elim.

9 The waters of Dimon are full of blood. But God says, “I will bring even more trouble to Dimon, lions for those escaping from Moab, for the ones still left in the land.”
