Hebrews 1

Read Hebrews 1 in clear, relatable modern language.

God Has Spoken Through His Son

Back in the day, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at different times and in different ways.

But in these last days, He spoke to us through His Son, the One He made heir of everything and used to create the whole universe.

The Son shines with God’s glory and shows us exactly who God is. He holds everything together by His powerful word. After cleansing our sins, He sat down at God’s right hand in heaven.

That puts Him far above the angels, and the name He inherited is greater than theirs.

God never told an angel, “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.” Nor did He say, “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son.”

And when God brings His firstborn Son into the world, He says, “Let every angel of God worship Him.”

About angels He says, “He makes His angels winds and His servants flames of fire.”

But about the Son He says, “Your throne, O God, lasts forever. Justice is the foundation of Your kingdom.”

“You love what is right and hate what is evil. That is why God, Your God, has poured greater joy on You than on anyone beside You.”

He also says, “Lord, You laid the earth’s foundation in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.”

“They will wear out, but You will remain. Creation will grow old like clothes.”

“You will fold it up like a coat and change it, but You stay the same, and Your years never run out.”

God never told an angel, “Sit at My right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”

Angels are serving spirits sent out to help the people who are going to inherit salvation.
