Exodus 35

Moses Reminds the People About the Sabbath

1 Moses gathered the whole squad of Israel and said, ‘Listen up! These are the commands the Lord gave you all to follow.’

2 ‘Work for six days, but the seventh day is holy. It is the Lord’s Sabbath, a day of complete rest. Anyone who works on that day must be put to death.’

3 ‘And do not even light a fire in your homes on the Sabbath.’

The People Are Called to Give for the Tabernacle

4 Moses told the people, ‘The Lord commanded this:’

5 ‘Everyone with a willing heart, bring an offering to the Lord, gold, silver, bronze,’

6 ‘Blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, goat hair,’

7 ‘Ram skins dyed red, fine leather, acacia wood,’

8 ‘Olive oil for the lampstand, spices for the anointing oil and incense,’

9 ‘Onyx stones and other gems to be placed on the priest’s breastplate and ephod.’

Skilled Workers Are Called to Help

10 ‘If you got skills, come through and help build what the Lord commanded:’

11 ‘The Tabernacle, its tent, covering, hooks, frames, bars, posts, and bases.’

12 ‘The Ark of the Covenant, its poles, the Mercy Seat, and the curtain to separate the Holy Place.’

13 ‘The table and all its utensils, the Bread of Presence,’

14 ‘The gold lampstand, its accessories, lamps, and oil for light,’

15 ‘The incense altar, its poles, the anointing oil, and fragrant incense,’

16 ‘The altar for burnt offerings, the bronze grating, its poles, and utensils, the wash basin and its stand,’

17 ‘The courtyard’s curtains, posts, bases, and entrance curtain,’

18 ‘The tent pegs and ropes for the Tabernacle and courtyard,’

19 ‘The priests’ clothes, the special garments for Aaron and his sons.’

The People Give Willingly

20 The whole community left Moses.

21 Everyone whose heart was stirred, whose spirit was willing, brought offerings to the Lord for the Tabernacle, its services, and priestly garments.

22 Both men and women, anyone with a willing heart, came with gold, brooches, earrings, rings, necklaces. They brought gold as an offering to the Lord.

23 Anyone who had blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, goat hair, ram skins dyed red, and fine leather brought it.

24 People brought silver, bronze, and acacia wood for the Lord’s work.

25 The women skilled in spinning spun thread from the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen.

26 The women who had the skill spun goat hair into fabric.

27 The leaders brought onyx stones and other gems for the high priest’s breastplate and ephod.

28 They also brought spices and olive oil for the incense, anointing oil, and lampstand.

29 Every man and woman who had a willing heart gave freely for the Lord’s work, just as He commanded. That is what the Israelites did.

Bezalel and Oholiab Are Chosen to Lead the Work

30 Moses told them, ‘The Lord has picked Bezalel, son of Uri, grandson of Hur, from the tribe of Judah.’

31 ‘God filled him with His Spirit, giving him wisdom, knowledge, and skill for all kinds of craftsmanship.’

32 ‘He can design and create things with gold, silver, and bronze,’

33 ‘Cut and set gemstones, carve wood, and do all kinds of creative work.’

34 ‘God also chose Oholiab, son of Ahisamach, from the tribe of Dan, to help him.’

35 ‘The Lord gave them both skill to teach others and work with fabric, embroidery, weaving, and all kinds of craftsmanship.’
