2 Timothy 4

Read 2 Timothy 4 in clear, relatable modern language.

Preach the Word

1 Listen, Timothy, I am charging you in front of God and Jesus Christ, who is going to judge the living and the dead when He comes back as King.

2 Preach the Word, fam. Be ready whether it is convenient or not. Correct, rebuke, and encourage people with patience and solid teaching.

3 A time is coming when folks will not want to hear the truth. They will chase teachers who tell them what they want to hear, just to scratch their itching ears.

4 They will turn their backs on the truth and start believing wild fairy tales.

5 But you, Stay grounded, keep your cool, handle suffering, do the work of an evangelist, and complete your mission.

Paul’s Final Words

6 My time’s almost up, Timothy, I am like a drink offering being poured out. The clock’s running out for me.

7 I have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.

8 Now the crown of righteousness is waiting for me. The Lord, the righteous Judge, is going to hook me up on that day, not just me, but everyone who has hyped for His return.

9 Try to get to me ASAP,

10 Because Demas bailed on me. He got caught up in this world and dipped to Thessalonica. Crescens went to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.

11 Only Luke is here with me. Grab Mark and bring him along; he is useful for the work.

12 I sent Tychicus to Ephesus.

13 When you roll through Troas, grab my cloak I left with Carpus, along with my scrolls, especially the parchments.

14 Watch out for Alexander the metalworker. He did me dirty, and the Lord is going to deal with him.

15 You stay away from him too, he is wild against our message.

16 At my first trial, nobody had my back; everybody bounced. May God forgive them for that.

17 But the Lord had my back and gave me strength to preach the gospel to the nations. He rescued me from the lion’s mouth.

18 The Lord will keep me safe from every evil and bring me into His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever. Amen.

19 Shoutout to Priscilla, Aquila, and Onesiphorus’s fam.

20 Erastus stayed in Corinth, and I left Trophimus sick in Miletus.

21 Try to get here before winter. Shoutout to Eubulus, Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers and sisters.

22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you all.
