Urban Word Bible
Timothy 6
Read 1 Timothy 6 in clear, relatable modern language.
False Teaching and Contentment
If you a servant or working under someone, show your boss respect, so nobody talks down on God’s name or His teachings.
If your boss is a believer, do not slack just because you all on the same team in Christ. Work even harder, because they are family in the faith and benefit from your work. Teach and encourage these things.
If anyone is out here teaching stuff that does not match up with the words of Jesus and godly living,
They are full of pride and do not know what they are talking about. All they do is stir up arguments, envy, beef, gossip, and drama.
These people got twisted minds and think godliness is just a hustle for getting rich.
Love of Money
But real gain comes from godliness with contentment.
We did not bring anything into this world, and we are not taking anything out.
If we got food and clothes, we should be good with that.
But people chasing the bag at all costs fall into traps and temptations. That thirst for cash drags them down and wrecks their lives.
The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some folks, chasing money, dipped out on the faith and ended up hurting themselves bad.
Final Charge
But you, man of God, run from all that. Chase righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.
Fight the good fight of faith. Grab hold of the eternal life you were called to when you made that public confession of faith.
In front of God, who gives life to everything, and Christ Jesus, who stood firm before Pilate, I charge you:
Keep this command without fault or failure until Jesus comes back.
God will bring it about in His timing. He is the blessed and only ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
Who alone is immortal and lives in unapproachable light. No one has seen Him or can see Him. To Him be honor and power forever. Amen.
Tell the rich folks not to be cocky or to put their hope in money, which do not last, but to put their hope in God, who hooks us up with everything to enjoy.
Tell them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, to be generous, and to share.
By doing this, they are stacking up treasure in heaven for the future and grabbing hold of real life.
Timothy, guard what God’s given you. Do not get caught up in pointless debates and arguments from so-called “knowledge” that is not even real.
Some people went down that path and swerved away from the faith. Grace be with you all.
