Corinthians 14
Read 1 Corinthians 14 in clear, relatable modern language.
Gifts of Prophecy and Tongues
Chase after love, fam, but do not sleep on spiritual gifts, especially the one to prophesy.
If you talking in tongues, you are not talking to people, you talking to God. People do not understand, because it is straight Spirit language, saying stuff they do not get.
But if you prophesy, you build up, encourage, and comfort folks, now that is something everybody can vibe with.
When you speak in tongues, you just build yourself up. But when you prophesy, you build up the whole squad.
I am cool with you all speaking in tongues, but I would rather you prophesy. Prophecy helps the crew more, unless someone is around to break down what the tongues mean, so everyone gets something out of it.
What good is it if I come through speaking in tongues but do not drop any knowledge, revelation, or teaching, It is must hit home, you feel me,
Even instruments like a flute or harp must play clear notes, or else how are we going to know what song they are playing,
Same with a trumpet, if it plays a messy sound, how we supposed to know it is time to suit up for battle,
Same with you. If your words are all over the place, who going to understand what are you saying, It is just gibberish at that point.
There are all kinds of languages in the world, and none of them are without meaning.
But if I do not know the language, we are going to be like strangers, not vibing at all.
So, since you all want spiritual gifts so bad, make sure you use them to build up the whole squad, the church.
If you speaking in tongues, pray that you can explain what it means too.
If I pray in tongues, my spirit’s doing the work, but my mind is taking a nap.
So what should I do, I am going to pray with my spirit, but I am going to use my mind too. I am going to sing with my spirit, but I am going to use my mind too.
If you are just thanking God in tongues, how is the person next to you going to say “Amen” if they do not know what you are saying?
You might be thanking God good and all, but you are not helping your homie understand.
I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you all,
But in church, I would rather drop five words that make sense to help others than spit 10,000 in tongues.
Listen, do not be kids when it comes to understanding stuff. Be babies when it comes to evil, but grown when it comes to understanding.
It is written in the Scriptures: “God is going to speak to the people with strange tongues and foreign lips, but even then they will not listen.”
So tongues are a sign for unbelievers, not for believers. But prophecy, That is for believers, not unbelievers.
If the whole church is speaking in tongues and some outsider rolls in, they are going to think you all are wilding.
But if everyone is prophesying and a non-believer walks in, they are going to get checked by the truth and realize, “Listen, God is really up in here!”
Their hearts get exposed, and they will fall down worshiping, saying, “God is in this place for real!”
Orderly Worship
So what is up, fam, When you all come together, everyone has got something to bring, a song, a word, a revelation, or a tongue. But everything should be done to help build the squad.
If someone speaks in tongues, make it two or three at the most, one at a time, and someone should break it down.
If nobody is there to explain it, keep quiet in the church. Talk to God silently.
Let two or three prophets speak, and let everybody else weigh what they say.
If someone else gets a word while another prophet’s speaking, the first one should chill and let them talk.
You can all prophesy one by one, so everyone can learn and be encouraged.
The spirits of prophets are under the control of prophets.
Because God is not about confusion but about peace. This is how it goes in all the churches of God’s people.
The women should chill in the church meetings, they are not supposed to be talking. If they got questions, they should ask their husbands at home. It is not right for them to speak in the church.
If they want to know something, they can ask their husbands at home, because it is shameful for a woman to be speaking in church.
You all think the word of God started with you, Or that you the only ones it came to,
If anyone thinks they are a prophet or spiritual, they need to recognize what I am saying is the Lord’s command.
But if someone wants to be ignorant, let them stay ignorant.
So, fam, be eager to prophesy, and do not block people from speaking in tongues.
But do everything in a respectful and orderly way.
