1 Corinthians 10

Warnings from Israel’s History

1 Family, I do not want you all to miss this, our ancestors were all under the cloud, and they all passed through the sea, right,

2 They all got baptized into Moses in the cloud and the sea.

3 They all ate the same spiritual food.

4 And they all drank the same spiritual drink, because they were drinking from that spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ.

5 But God was not pleased with most of them, and their bodies got laid out in the wilderness.

6 Now these things happened as examples for us, so we would not be out here chasing after evil like they did.

7 Do not be idol worshipers like some of them were. It is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to wild out.”

8 And do not be out here getting’ into sexual sin like they did, 23,000 of them died in one day because of it.

9 Do not test Christ, like some of them did, and they got handled by snakes.

10 And do not be out here complaining, like some of them did, and they got destroyed by the destroyer.

11 These things happened as examples and warnings for us, because the end of the ages is here.

12 So if you think you are standing strong, better be careful you do not trip and fall.

13 Any temptation you face is not new, it is the same for everybody. But God’s faithful, He will not let you be tempted more than you can handle. When the temptation comes, He will always make a way out so you can stand firm.

The Lord’s Table

14 So, fam, run away from idol worship.

15 I am talking to you all like you got sense, think about what I am saying.

16 When we drink the cup at communion, are we not sharing in the blood of Christ, And when we break the bread, are we not sharing in His body,

17 There is one loaf, and we all share it, so we are one body, even though there is a lot of us.

18 Check this: those who eat the sacrifices in Israel share in the altar, right,

19 So am I saying food sacrificed to idols means something, or that an idol is real,

20 Nah, but what I am saying is, the sacrifices these pagans offer, they offer to demons, not God. I do not want you all messing with demons.

21 You cannot be drinking from the Lord’s cup and from the cup of demons, or eating at the Lord’s table and the table of demons.

22 Are we trying to make the Lord jealous, We are not stronger than Him, right,

Do All to God’s Glory

23 You all might say, “I am free to do anything,” but not everything is good for you. “I am free to do anything,” but not everything builds you up.

24 Do not just be about yourself, look out for others too.

25 Eat whatever is sold at the meat market without asking questions for your conscience’ sake,

26 Because “the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.”

27 If somebody who do not believe invites you to eat, and you want to go, eat whatever they serve without asking questions for your conscience’ sake.

28 But if somebody tells you, “This food was sacrificed to idols,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who told you and for conscience’ sake.

29 I am not talking about your conscience, but theirs. Why should my freedom be judged by somebody else’s conscience,

30 If I eat with thanks, why should I be criticized for food I gave thanks for,

31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

32 Do not be tripping anybody up, whether Jew, Greek, or the church of God.

33 I am just out here trying to please everybody in every way, not looking out for myself but for others, so they can be saved.
