The Family Line of Levi (Tribe of Priests)

1 Levi had three sons: Gershon, Kohath, And Merari.

2 Kohath had: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, And Uzziel.

3 Amram had two major sons: Aaron and Moses. He also had a daughter, Miriam. Aaron had: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, And Ithamar.

4 Eleazar had Phinehas. Phinehas had Abishua.

5 Abishua had Bukki. Bukki had Uzzi.

6 Uzzi had Zerahiah. Zerahiah had Meraioth.

7 Meraioth had Amariah. Amariah had Ahitub.

8 Ahitub had Zadok. Zadok had Ahimaaz.

9 Ahimaaz had Azariah. Azariah had Johanan.

10 Johanan had another Azariah, he was the priest in the temple Solomon built in Jerusalem.

11 That Azariah had Amariah. Amariah had Ahitub.

12 Ahitub had Zadok. Zadok had Shallum.

13 Shallum had Hilkiah. Hilkiah had Azariah.

14 Azariah had Seraiah. Seraiah had Jehozadak.

15 When the Lord sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, Jehozadak got carried off too.

16 These are Levi’s sons again: Gershom, Kohath, And Merari.

17 These are the names of the sons of Levi by their families: Gershom had Libni and Shimei.

18 Kohath had Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

19 Merari had Mahli and Mushi. So the Levites were broken down into families from Gershom, Kohath, and Merarihadl

Gershom’s Line

20 Gershom’s son was Libni. Libni had Jahath. Jahath had Zimmah.

21 Zimmah had Joah. Joah had Iddo. Iddo had Zerah. Zerah had Jeatherai.

Kohath’s Line

22 Kohath’s son was Amminadab. Amminadab had Korah. Korah had Assir.

23 Assir had Elkanah. Elkanah had Ebiasaph. Ebiasaph had another Assir.

24 That Assir had Tahath. Tahath had Uriel. Uriel had Uzziah. Uzziah had Shaul.

25 Elkanah was also a son of the same line, he had Amasai and Ahimoth.

26 Ahimoth had Elkanah. Elkanah had Zophai. Zophai had Nahath.

27 Nahath had Eliab. Eliab had Jeroham. Jeroham had Elkanah.

28 Elkanah had Samuel, the prophet. Samuel had two sons: Joel (firstborn) Abijah (second)

Merari’s Line

29 Merari’s son was Mahli. Mahli had Libni. Libni had Shimei. Shimei had Uzzah.

30 Uzzah had Shimea. Shimea had Haggiah. Haggiah had Asaiah.

Temple Worship Leaders

31 These are the men David appointed to lead the worship music in God’s house after the ark was placed there.

32 They were worship leaders before the tent of meeting, the Tabernacle, singing and ministering until Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem. They handled that worship 24/7.

33 Here are their names, the worship crew from the Kohathite clan: Heman the singer, son of Joel, son of Samuel,

34 Son of Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Eliel, son of Toah,

35 Son of Zuph, son of Elkanah, son of Mahath, son of Amasai,

36 Son of Elkanah, son of Joel, son of Azariah, son of Zephaniah,

37 Son of Tahath, son of Assir, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah,

38 Son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, son of Israel.

Other Worship Leaders

39 Heman’s right-hand man was Asaph. Asaph came from the Gershom clan: Son of Berechiah, son of Shimea,

40 Son of Michael, son of Baaseiah, son of Malchijah,

41 Son of Ethni, son of Zerah, son of Adaiah,

42 Son of Ethan, son of Zimmah, son of Shimei,

43 Son of Jahath, son of Gershom, son of Levi.

44 Their backup singers came from the Merari line, on Heman’s left side. One was Ethan (son of Kishi, son of Abdi, son of Malluch),

45 Son of Hashabiah, son of Amaziah, son of Hilkiah,

46 Son of Amzi, son of Bani, son of Shemer,

47 Son of Mahli, son of Mushi, son of Merari, son of Levi.

Priests Who Handled the Sacrifices

48 Their relatives, the other Levites, were assigned to take care of the work at the house of God.

49 But Aaron and his descendants were the ones offering sacrifices, burning incense, and handling all the work inside the Most Holy Place. They made atonement for the people, like God commanded Moses.

Land Given to the Priestly Tribe

50 These are Aaron’s descendants: Eleazar, Phinehas, Abishua,

51 Bukki, Uzzi, Zerahiah,

52 Meraioth, Amariah, Ahitub,

53 Zadok, Ahimaaz.

Where the Priestly Families Lived

54 Here is where the Aaronite families lived: In the territory of Judah, they were given Hebron and the nearby pastures.

55 But the actual fields and villages around Hebron were given to Caleb (son of Jephunneh).

56 The Levites also got: Beth-shemesh, Jattir, Eshtemoa,

57 Hilen, Debir, Ashan, Juttah, And their fields around them.

58 They also got: Gibeon, Geba, Alemeth, And Anathoth, all with pasturelands.

59 Altogether, 13 towns in the tribe of Benjamin were given to the sons of Aaron.

Other Levitical Towns

60 The other Kohathite clans got 10 towns from half the tribe of Manasseh.

61 The Gershom clan got 13 towns from Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Manasseh in Bashan.

62 The Merari clan got 12 towns from Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

63 The leaders of Israel gave these towns by name to the Levites, by sacred lot.

64 They gave them fields and villages with each town too.

65 From Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, they gave some of the best towns to the Kohathite clan.

More Levitical Land Details

66 Some of the Kohathite families also got land in Ephraim’s territory.

67 They got: Shechem (a city of refuge), Gezer, Jokmeam,

68 Beth-horon, Aijalon, And Gath-rimmon, all with pastures.

69 From half of Manasseh’s tribe they got: Aner and Bileam, plus the fields.

70 The Gershomites got: Golan in Bashan and Ashtaroth from Manasseh’s other half.

71 From Issachar: Kedesh, Daberath,

72 Ramoth, Anem.

73 From Asher: Mashal, Abdon,

74 Hukok, Rehob.

75 From Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee, Hammon, Kiriathaim.

76 The rest of the Merarites got: Bezer, Jahzah,

77 Kedemoth, Mephaath (all from Reuben), And from Gad: Ramoth in Gilead, Mahanaim,

78 Heshbon, Jazer, all with their fields.
