Zechariah 5

Read Zechariah 5 in clear, relatable modern language.

The Vision of the Flying Scroll

1 Then I looked up again and saw a flying scroll.

2 He asked me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.”

3 Then he said to me, “This is the curse going out over the whole land. According to what is written on one side, every thief will be removed, and according to what is written on the other side, everyone who swears falsely will be removed.

4 I will send it out,” declares the LORD of armies, “and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name, and it will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timber and its stones.”

The Vision of the Woman in the Basket

5 Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and said to me, “Look up and see what this is coming out.”

6 I asked, “What is it?” He replied, “This is the basket going out,” and he said, “This is their iniquity in all the land.”

7 Then a lead cover was lifted, and there was a woman sitting inside the basket.

8 He said, “This is Wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and shoved the lead cover down over its opening.

9 Then I looked up and saw two women coming out with the wind in their wings. They had wings like storks, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven.

10 I asked the angel who was speaking with me, “Where are they taking the basket?”

11 He said to me, “To build a house for it in the land of Shinar. When it is prepared, the basket will be set there on its base.”
