Revelation 11

The Two Witnesses

1 Then I was given a measuring stick and told, “Get up and measure God’s temple and the altar, and count the people worshiping there.

2 But do not bother with the outer courtyard; it has been given to the non-believers. They are going to trample the holy city for 42 months.

3 And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will preach and prophesy for 1,260 days, wearing sackcloth.”

4 These two are like two olive trees and two lampstands standing in front of the Lord of the earth.

5 If anyone tries to mess with them, fire comes out of their mouths and burns their enemies. That is how anyone who tries to harm them will die.

6 They have got power to shut up the sky so it does not rain during the time they are prophesying, and they can turn water into blood and hit the earth with any plague they want, whenever they want.

7 But when they finish their testimony, the beast that comes up from the bottomless pit will go to war with them, conquer them, and kill them.

8 Their bodies will lie in the streets of the great city, the one spiritually called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.

9 For three and a half days, people from all nations, tribes, languages, and lands will look at their dead bodies and refuse to bury them.

10 Folks all over the world will celebrate, sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented everyone living on earth.

11 But after three and a half days, God breathed life into them, and they stood up on their feet. Everyone who saw it was shook with fear.

12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Come up here.” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, with all their haters watching.

13 At that moment, a massive earthquake hit, and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed, and the survivors were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

14 The second woe is over, but the third one is coming fast.

The Seventh Trumpet

15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and loud voices shouted in heaven, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign forever and ever.”

16 The twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones in front of God fell on their faces and worshiped him,

17 Saying, “We thank you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and started ruling.

18 The nations were angry, but now your wrath has come, the time for judging the dead, rewarding your servants the prophets and the saints, and everyone who honors your name, both small and great, and for destroying those who are destroying the earth.”

19 Then God’s temple in heaven opened up, and inside was the ark of his covenant. Lightning flashed, thunder roared, an earthquake shook, and a great hailstorm hit.
