Psalms 80

Read Psalms 80 in clear, relatable modern language.

A Prayer for the Restoration of Israel

1 Give an ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who sit on the throne over the cherubim, shine!

2 In front of Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, Wake up Your strength and come to save us!

3 God, bring us back; Make Your face shine, so we can be saved.

4 Lord God of armies, How long will You be mad at the prayer of Your people,

5 You fed them bread of tears, And You gave them tears to drink in a big cup.

6 You made us a fight to our neighbors, And our enemies are laughing at us.

A Plea for Mercy

7 God of armies, bring us back; Make Your face shine, so we can be saved.

8 You brought a vine from Egypt; You kicked out the nations and planted it.

9 You cleared the way for it; It took root and filled the land.

10 The mountains were covered with its shadow, And the awesome cedars with its branches.

11 It sent out its branches to the sea, And its new growth to the River.

12 Why did You break its fences, So all who pass by can pick its fruit,

13 The wild pig from the forest eats it up, And the wild animals of the field feed on it.

A Final Plea

14 God of armies, please come back; Look from heaven and see, and visit this vine,

15 And the stem Your right hand planted, And the son You made strong for Yourself.

16 It is burned with fire; it is cut down; They are gone at the rebuke of Your face.

17 Let Your hand be on the dude of Your right hand, On the son of man You made strong for Yourself.

18 Then we will not turn away from You; Give us life, and we will call on Your name.

19 Lord God of armies, bring us back; Make Your face shine, so we can be saved.
