Psalms 135
Read Psalms 135 in clear, relatable modern language.
A Hymn of Praise to the Great God
1 Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; Praise Him, you servants of the Lord,
2 Who stand in the house of the Lord, In the yards of the house of our God.
3 Praise the Lord, because the Lord is good; Sing praises to His name, because it is pleasant.
4 Because the Lord chose Jacob for Himself, Israel for His own.
A Declaration of God’s Power
5 Because I know that the Lord is big, And that our Lord is above all gods.
6 Whatever the Lord wants, He does, In the heavens and on earth, In the seas and all the deeps.
7 He brings up the clouds from the ends of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain; He brings the wind from His storehouses.
A History of God’s Judgment
8 He hit the firstborn of Egypt, From dude to animal.
9 He sent signs and miracles Into the middle of you, O Egypt, Against Pharaoh and all his servants.
10 He hit a bunch of nations, And killed mighty kings,
11 Sihon king of the Amorites, And Og king of Bashan, And all the kingdoms of Canaan,
12 And gave their land as an inheritance, An inheritance to Israel His people.
A Rebuke to Idols
13 Lord, Your name lasts forever; Lord, Your memory is to all generations.
14 Because the Lord will judge His people And feel for His servants.
15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, The work of human hands.
16 They got a mouth, but they do not speak; They got eyes, but they do not see;
17 They got ears, but they do not hear, And there is no breath in their mouth.
18 Those who made them are like them, So is everyone who trusts in them.
A Call to Worship
19 Family of Israel, bless the Lord! Family of Aaron, bless the Lord!
20 Family of Levi, bless the Lord! You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!
21 Blessed be the Lord from Zion, Who lives in Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!
