Proverbs 5

Warning Against the Immoral Woman

1 Son, listen to my wisdom, lean your ear to my understanding.

2 So you hold on to discretion, and your lips guard knowledge.

3 Because the lips of the immoral woman drip honey, her words smoother than oil.

4 But in the end, she bitter as poison, sharp as a double-edged blade.

5 Her feet march to death, her steps lock in on the grave.

6 She does not care about the path of life; her ways wobbly and she does not even know it.

7 So now, my kids, listen, do not drift from my words.

8 Stay far from her block, do not step near her door.

9 Or you are going to hand over your strength to strangers, your years to the ruthless.

10 Your hustle going to end up in another man’s crib, your grind feeding outsiders.

11 You will cry at the end when your body and soul wasting away.

12 You will say, “Man, I hated instruction, my heart despised correction.”

13 “I did not listen to my teachers or pay attention to those who warned me.”

14 “I was this close to total ruin, in front of everybody in the assembly.”

Enjoy the Wife of Your Youth

15 Drink water from your own well, sip flowing water from your own spring.

16 Do not let your streams spill in the street, your water flow in the alleys.

17 Keep them for yourself alone, do not share with strangers.

18 Let your fountain stay blessed; find joy in the wife of your youth.

19 A loving deer, a graceful doe, let her love satisfy you always, be drunk in her embrace.

20 Why chase an immoral woman, son, Why hug another man’s wife,

21 For the Lord sees every step you take, He checks every path.

22 The wicked get trapped in their own sins, caught tight in ropes of lust.

23 They die because they lack discipline, they lost because they wild on foolishness.
