Proverbs 27

Do Not Boast About Tomorrow

1 Do not brag about tomorrow; you do not know what the day brings.

2 Let another praise you, not your own mouth; someone else, not your own lips.

3 A stone heavy and sand weighty, but a fool’s anger heavier than both.

4 Anger cruel, fury overwhelming, but who can stand against jealousy,

5 Open rebuke better than hidden love.

6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

7 A full stomach hates honey, but to the hungry even bitter tastes sweet.

8 A man wandering from home like a bird that leaves its nest.

9 Perfume and incense bring joy, and a friend’s advice sweet to the soul.

10 Do not ditch your friend or your father’s friend; better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.

11 Be wise, my son, and bring me joy, so I can answer those who mock me.

12 The prudent see danger and dip; the simple keep walking and suffer.

13 Take the garment of one who guarantees a stranger’s debt; hold it for security.

14 If you bless your neighbor loudly early in the morning, it counts as a curse.

15 A nagging wife like constant dripping on a rainy day.

16 Trying to stop her like catching the wind or holding oil in your hand.

17 Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.

18 Whoever tends a fig tree eats its fruit; whoever serves his master gets honored.

19 As water reflects a face, so a heart reflects a person.

20 The grave and destruction never satisfied, and neither are human eyes.

21 Fire tests silver, and praise tests a person.

22 Even if you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle, his foolishness will not leave him.

23 Know the state of your flock; pay attention to your herds.

24 Riches do not last forever; crowns do not pass down for all time.

25 When the grass gone and new growth shows, gather the mountain hay.

26 Lambs give you clothing, goats buy you a field.

27 You will have plenty of goat’s milk for food, for you, your family, and your servants.
